We played like "big city" kids this weekend, and it was a lot of fun. Friday night we had tickets to the Hotel Cafe Tour at the House of Blues in downtown Dallas. Amber told me about this tour and I'm glad she did. It was a great show! I was mostly looking forward to Sara Barielles, and she had a great set in the middle of the show. This tour is all about the singer-songwriter, and we saw five: Cary Brothers, Joshua Radin, Ingrid Michaelson, Greg Laswell, and Sara Barielles. I purchased Sara Barielles' album from iTunes a few months ago, and Nate always "hated" when I chose to listen to her songs in the car. But after seeing her live, he came around and decided he actually liked her music! She had the most energy on stage and her songs sounded great live. The House of Blues is a decent venue, and our tickets were fairly cheap - all in all - a good Friday night out on the town.
We found ourselves in downtown Dallas once again on Saturday night. This time, Nate's boss gave him two tickets to see the Dallas Stars play the Vancouver Canucks at American Airlines Center. We had great seats - Row B of the Platinum Section (just below the boxes) and Platinum parking. Neither of us had been to American Airlines Center and we were both impressed. Unfortunately, Dallas lost 4-3, after posting a huge comeback. But at least it was an exciting game, and free! Prior to the game we did some shopping Uptown and enjoyed some delicious pepperoni and fresh basil pizza at a "local" joint. I like most of the shops in Uptown, but the glitz and glam of the Dallas scene gets old quick. Before the game, we sat on a patio with some gelato and watched all the trendy folks across the street on the restaurant patios and bars. It's kind of fun from a people-watching perspective, but all the vanity made us glad we live in Fort Worth (not that you don't see vanity there, just not as concentrated). It's fun to live so close to a big city like Dallas where all the big acts come to town, where all the great shops and restaurants are located, and where we can just get away without having to stray too far from home.
On Sunday we stayed home and cleaned. We're now ready for a week of Fort Worth fun with Mom and Tim!
