My sister and brother-in-law came to visit this weekend and meet their niece. They are as enamored with her as every visitor we've had so far. Abby is well on her way to being one spoiled little gal. Her aunt and uncle outfitted more of her wardrobe with some sherbert-colored onesies and an apple onesie (since her aunt is a teacher). Also, Abby's library now has some books specifically for girls: Madeline, Chrysanthemum, and some Little Miss titles.
My brother-in-law took the picture above while my sister was holding Abby on a beautiful spring Saturday on our back porch. This picture really captures some of my favorite things about my little daughter. The first feature I noticed when she was born was her button nose. It is all her own, but has some characteristics as her father's nose. Abby also likes to have her hands near her mouth or clasped together. Her mouth is exactly like that of her daddy's, and they both sleep with their mouths wide open. Abby's future husband better watch out - she'll probably end up snoring, just like her dad! I also love when Abby crinkles her forehead; most times she gets more wrinkly than she is in this photo.
Today was my first full day on my own at home. It was a little rough, as I know some of them will be in the following months. Abby learned how to really use her lungs and cry today. Sometimes she absolutely wailed and even cried real tears. Nothing would calm her down; I tried swaddling, rocking, singing to her, offering her a "paci", all to no avail. The only thing that got her to sleep was being slung over my shoulder. And that's where she is right now - only on a different shoulder. Daddy came home from work and has been snuggling with little Abby on the couch. What a great way to end a Monday.
